Costume Design

My interests in theatre, storytelling, textile histories and crafting makes costume design one of my favorite things to do. As a performer and psychology student I love fitting together narrative and characterization. As a craftsperson, I love the process of creation and problem solving that comes with costuming for the stage. I love unique concepts inspired by fantasy or historical period dress and my pastimes of thrifting and upcycling allows me to stay on a budget. I’m a big believer in keeping it nifty, sourcing from thrift and performers' closets and reducing textile waste where possible.

Macbeth, Barestage, Berkeley, CA. March 2025

I costumed a German expressionism inspired student run production of Macbeth. The director's vision included strong elements of horror and aesthetics based loosely off the Weimar republic. I thrifted 9 men's suit jackets and altered them to look like military uniforms. I created an emblem system for the Thains with thrifted ties inspired by the tartan clan system, a nod to the play's Scottish origins, but made ahistorical. I incorporated basic pieces that I knew the performers could pull from their own closet, like dark pants and white button ups, into the design to keep to the small budget of a volunteer student theatre production.

Thrifted men's suit jackets, I cropped them and extended the lapel for a sharp military-esque silouhuette that was not tied to a specific time period.
